The Shop: Glimpses

For those of you who didn't see my post about the shop, Mid2Mod will be located at 830 Exposition Avenue, Suite 103. (For you Metroplex residents, that's half a block from the Fair Park DART terminal, where Exposition dead ends into Parry in Deep Ellum.) We're moving into the old Atomica Modern space, and "Mid-Century Joe" is moving his store into a much larger space in the Dallas Design District where he has plans to carry an upscale range of MCM furniture and expand his work with the trade.

We will fill the niche he's carved at the Exposition location, carrying quality mid-range furniture and accessories. We'll specialize in original mid-century pieces, but true to our tagline "A century's worth of great design," if we run across something older or newer that is too sleek and beautiful to pass up, it will show up in the store too. We're all about bringing the modern design aesthetic home.

Just to give you a hint of what to expect, you will find designs by Paul McCobb, Alvar Aalto, Jens Risom, Niels Otto Møller, Tapio Wirkkala, Oiva Toikka, Jens Quistgaard, Kaj Franck and much more in our store. We'll have some iconic mid-century china, glassware and ceramics, along with some wonderful teak and walnut furniture and upholstered pieces. And best of all, there will be something to suit every pocketbook.

For now, we have our sign up, and we're inside working around the clock to be ready for a soft opening sometime around the middle of March, with our grand opening to follow at a later date.

In the meantime, I'm going to start giving you a peek at some of our items...but a really close-up peek. If you can list the designer/manufacturer of each item, in order, you'll receive...uh...a really big round of applause from all of us. :) I guess there should be some rules for this impromptu "contest," but I hate rules, so all I'm going to say is that there will be 10 pictures shown over the course of a few days, so don't give away your answers till all 10 have been shown. We'll start easy and get more challenging.

Now that wasn't too hard, was it? So keep playing and see who gets them all first. There may not be a prize involved, but isn't being named The All-Seeing, All-Knowing Eye of 2011 worth something?

  3. @Krazy4Mod: I'm getting more excited every day! Tomorrow my SIL and his dad are building the wall which will separate the shop from their living quarters and installing shelving, and then we'll get busy in earnest setting the floor and displaying items.
