Kolb lamp...gone in a flash

Before I even had time to post about it, this light fixture by Otto and Ridi Kolb was sold. Otto Kolb was a Swiss architect, and his wife Ridi was an Austrian interior designer. Their company, Kolb Lighting Co., produced, according to one of their ads, "table, floor and wall lamps of unusually fine proportions."

This beautiful brass and enameled metal piece has three three adjustable cones having bulbs at both ends.

  2. The shapes of the lamps are just perfect, but I'm hoping a flowerpot lamp will fall in my lap one day! :)

    1. There are so many fantastic lighting designs out there that it's really hard to make a choice. I love flowerpot lamps too, and I just recently bought some Tom Dixon lookalikes for myself.

  3. Wow, bulbs in both coned ends, what a beautiful example of the modernist mantra of "form follows function"! That must make a great effect, they were so good at it in those days! I love the flowerpot too. Have you seen the Topan VP6, also by Panton? I'm considering those in black for my new kitchen. So many favorites....

    1. Yes, it was a very rare find. We actually sold it to a dealer friend in town who has been in the business for a long time and carries extremely high-end pieces. He listed it on 1stdibs and immediately sold it to a designer...a win-win deal all around.

  5. Those shades are super perfect. The shape is so attractive. Are the shades glass or plastic? I am guessing glass because the color is such a nice milky white. They are "unusually fine proportions."

  7. Love the painted aluminum color -- that's not one you see everyday. I'm holding out for a MiniCooper in that same lovely shade of off white . . .
